落叶灌木或小乔木，高达4～5m。枝条粗壮，无毛。叶广卵形，全缘，通常宽大于长，宽5～10cm。圆锥花序发自侧芽，长6～15cm；花萼钟状，有4齿；花冠紫色、蓝紫色或淡粉红色，端4裂开展，花筒长1～1.5cm。蒴果长圆形，顶端尖，平滑。
分布与习性:
产中国华北地区。朝鲜半岛也有。喜光，稍耐阴，耐寒，耐旱，适应性强，喜湿润肥沃排水良好的土壤，忌涝。

应用:
宜广植于庭园、厂矿、居民区等绿地中；也可多种丁香配植成转类圆，形成美丽、清雅、芳香，花开不绝的景观。
