三门峡（sanmen xia）黄河中游著名峡谷。位于河南省三门峡市和山西省平陆县间。中国古代地理图志中称为三门山。旧时峡谷中有两座坚硬的闪长玢岩石岛兀立河中，岛壁峭拔。鬼岛位于右岸侧，呈弯弓形；神岛位于左岸侧，呈鱼脬形，屹立中流；顺河稍下左岸尚有半岛切入河中，称为“人门岛”；右岸有巨石探出河岸，称“狮子头”，犹如凶狮踞岸。三门峡谷两岸，劈立千仞，两石岛自右岸至左岸将水道分成鬼门、神门、人门三股急流：鬼门河和神门河水势殊险；人门河水势稍缓，但也水深流急，舟楫难行。河水撞过三门后又被两岸半岛巨石束合为一，水流在仅有7 000多米长、400多米宽的峡谷中经一分一合后，流急浪大，浊浪排空，吼声巨大，形成古来即驰名之三门天险。
