六磷胺是一种高沸点强极性有机溶剂，与水互溶，甚至能溶解无机盐，故有“万能溶剂”之称。能溶解聚氯乙烯、聚苯硫醚、聚偏二氯乙烯、聚丙烯腈、聚酯、聚醚、聚乙烯醇、聚酰胺、聚氨酯、硝酸纤维素等。还可用作乙丙橡胶的添加剂，提高弹性和耐油性。
贮存于阴凉、通风的库房内，远离火种、热源。
