一般的氨基硅烷偶联剂其氨基在水中易与本身的烷氧基水解为硅醇，并发生内螯合作用而形成一种环状化合物，或缩聚成有机硅氧烷醇，从而减弱了硅烷的偶联作用，甚至失效。而阳离子型硅烷则是使氨基硅烷与酸结合成离子型盐，因而具有良好的水溶性和稳定性，提高了偶联效果，同时赋予该类硅烷抗静电功能。
