苏联电影导演、苏联人民艺术家。1903年12月28日生于梯弗里斯,1973年3月26日卒于莫斯科。1923年起开始从事电影工作，先做摄影，以后担任导演。他前期比较著名的作品有《斯瓦涅奇的盐》（1930）、《勇敢》（1939）、《瓦列里·契卡洛夫》(1941)、《忠实的朋友》(1954)、《垦荒先锋》(1956)等，都是表现苏联人民生活的作品。1957年，卡拉托佐夫拍摄了战争题材影片《雁南飞》。这部作品在主题的体现、题材的选择和艺术表现上，都有新的开拓，比较真实地反映了卫国战争期间苏联人民的苦难遭遇和精神面貌。1960年，卡拉托佐夫拍摄了表现地质勘探队员生活的《未寄出的信》，以后他拍摄的作品还有《我──古巴》(1964)、《红帐篷》(1970)等。他的一系列作品都体现了诗的激情，具有较强烈的情绪感染力。此外，他的影片在造型处理上也有独到之处，对苏联电影的发展具有一定的影响。
