生产方法与聚丙烯、高密度聚乙烯的淤浆法相近,所用催化剂是G.纳塔发明的钛系催化剂。原料1-丁烯可从轻油裂解的碳四馏分中分离或由丁烷脱氢、乙烯二聚等方法合成,1-丁烯分离和制备方法较复杂,单体成本高,使聚丁烯的生产成本比聚乙烯、聚丙烯等通用的聚烯烃树脂高,从而限制了它的大量发展。
