 (术语)行布施之主人也。自投资财而开法会或供养僧之人,又葬式之主等皆谓之施主。梵语檀越,陀那钵底Da-napati,思益经一曰:“世尊何谓菩萨能为施主?佛言:菩萨能教化众生。”寄归传一曰:“梵云陀那钵底,译为施主。陀那是施,钵底是主。而云檀越者,本非正译。略去那字,取上陀音转名为檀。更加越字,意道行由檀舍,自可越渡贫穷。妙释虽然,终乖正本。”
