云南省德宏傣族景颇族自治州多民族的边境县，热带作物生产基地。位于自治州西南部、东、南、西三面与缅甸接界。原称勐卯，后取吉祥(瑞)与美丽(丽)之意，称瑞丽。面积860平方公里，人口8.1万。傣、景颇、德昂、白、傈僳、彝、回等少数民族占人口一半以上。其中傣族、汉族多居住在盆地内；景颇、德昂族多居住在外围山区。县府驻勐卯镇。县境自然条件优越，盛产砂仁、橡胶、紫胶、草果、菠萝、芒果、菠萝蜜等热带作物及水果，农产品有稻米、花生、烟草等。
