超导体通以交流电流或在交变磁场中，其传输电流有能量损耗并转变为热能，称交流损耗。此损耗与交变频率有关，乃至到达相当高频率时，超导体成为与正常导体一样。例如对锡，在频率高达红外区域时就与正常导体的锡几乎没有差异；但在低频下，则几乎无损耗。对处在混合态的硬超导体，其磁化曲线是不可逆的，有磁滞现象，则磁通线在交变磁场中往返运动时，需克服钉扎力和黏滞阻力作功而损耗能量并转化为热能耗散，称磁滞损耗。对处在交变电流或交变磁场中的迈斯纳态的超导体，有认为其表面并非完全光洁而有能耗，本质上也是一种磁滞损耗。另外，交变磁场感生涡旋电场，此电场使正常电子流动有欧姆损耗，称涡流损耗。
