物种特征:描述：中等体型（38厘米）、尾长的褐色鹃鸠。头及下体粉褐。雄鸟与斑尾鹃鸠区别为上体无黑色横纹，颈背无绿色，尾下覆羽黄褐色。雌鸟特具浅黄褐色的前额和头顶，下体具黑色细横纹。 虹膜－黄色；嘴－偏粉；脚－粉红。 叫声：繁殖季节作深沉的wua wu叫声。 分布范围：菲律宾、中国台湾。 分布状况：亚种phaea为台湾东南部兰屿岛的常见留鸟。 习性：同其他鹃鸠。 注：有著者把栗褐鹃鸠归入火鹃鸠 M. phasianella（参见郑作新，1994），或把火鹃鸠归入栗褐鹃鸠M. tenuirostris，在此作者从Inskipp et al.（1996）的意见，将其全部归为一超种amboinensis。
