| 尖吻蝮 Deinagkistrodon acutus 蛇目蝰科蝮亚科尖吻蝮属唯一的种。又称放丝蛇、吊等扑、五步蛇（浙江）、棋盘蛇（福建）、百步蛇(台湾)、瞎子蛇、懒蛇（江西）、翻身花（湖南）、聋婆蛇(广西)、犁头匠（贵州）、岩蛟（四川），分布于中国浙江、江西、福建、安徽、台湾、湖北、湖南、广东、广西、贵州和四川等省区。全长可达1.5米。头大，三角形，躯干粗壮，通身被覆具结节的粗糙鳞片。最典型的特征是吻端尖出，向前上方翘起，躯尾背面有大的方形块斑20余个，头背黑褐色，头腹土黄色，二色在头侧截然划分。眼与鼻孔之间有颊窝（热测位器）。生活于山区或丘陵林木茂盛的阴湿地方，垂直分布范围海拔100～1350米。发现于山溪旁的岩石上、落叶间 、岩缝中、路边或茶山草丛中、玉米地内，住宅附近甚或房屋内。无论晴天、阴天或雨天都可以见到，晚上较活跃，白天多盘曲成团，头枕于中央。以蟾蜍、蛙、鸟和鼠类为食，也吃蜥蜴。春末夏初或秋季交配，产卵10～20枚，卵白色或淡乳酪色。母蛇有盘卧卵上的习性，经20多天孵出仔蛇。尖吻蝮体大，排毒量多，平均每次排干毒量约60毫克：主含出血毒。被蛇咬伤后，内外严重出血，常有生命危险。尖吻蝮去内脏的干制品叫蕲蛇或白花蛇，是著名的中药，有祛风湿 、定惊搐的功效；肉可供食用。
