位于青海省柴达木盆地，隶属于青海石油管理局。该局前身为西北石油局柴达木地质调查处,1955年6月成立青海石油勘探局，1959年改称现名，负责柴达木盆地的石油勘探与开发工作。至1983年底，已在盆地中部冷湖一带以及盆地南部花土沟一带发现油气田16个，投入开发 5个。冷湖油田是柴达木盆地发现和开发最早的油田。该油田为一背斜圈闭，储层为第三系干柴沟组含砾砂岩，埋藏深度350～1000m。原油性质好，比重0.80～0.8146,地面粘度5cP。1977年发现的尕斯库勒油田是目前青海最大的油田。该油田控制含油面积超过30km2,为断层切割的背斜圈闭。有新、老第三系两套含油层。油层压力高，油层物性好，原油比重轻，单井产量也较高。
