用途：用于生产镇静催眠药溴异戊酰脲。但更多用于生产香料（在日本占总消沸量的80%）。用作香料的异戊酸酯主要有异戊酸已酯、异戊酸丙酯、异戊酸异戊酯、异戊酸牻牛儿酯、异戊酸苄酯和异戊酸肉桂酯。低级异戊酸酯类作食用香料，高级异戊酸酯类用于化妆品。异戊酸天然存于缬草油、香草油、酒花油、月桂叶油、留兰香油等，我国GB2760-86规定为允许使用的食用香料。主要用以配制干酪和奶油香精，亦微量用于水果型香精。
