无色液体。分子量172.27。密度0.858g/cm3。沸点190℃。闪点72℃。不溶于水。溶于大多数有机溶剂。以1:6.5-8溶于70％乙醇。具有特有的类似苹果的香气，味甜。
生产方法：主要采用酯化法。以异戊酸和异戊醇为原料，在共沸状态下进行直接酯化反应而得。也可以异戊醇和异戊醛为原料，在氢气存在下，通过铜铀催化剂催化反应而得。
用途：酯类合成香料。主要用作苹果、杏子、樱桃、香蕉、菠萝、凤梨等果香型香精的调合香料，其中又以在苹果型香精中用得最多。
