扩大炼焦煤源的炼焦方法之一。利用专门的捣固机械，将装炉煤料捣固成煤饼，然后从炭化室的一侧推入。使装炉煤料的堆密度可以增大到0.95吨/米3以上（顶装焦炉煤料堆密度一般为 0.75吨／米3左右）。捣固炼焦，对采用以胶质层厚度在11～14毫米的气煤为主的煤料，效果比较显著。
