山西省晋中地区辖县，山西中西部交通枢纽。位于省境中部，太原盆地南缘。面积736平方公里,人口31.5万。县府驻城关镇。西汉置休县，晋称介休县，因春秋时介子推隐居于县境的绵山，故名，沿称至今。交通除同蒲铁路经过外，有支线去孝义阳泉曲，并有公路通汾阳、离石、陕北各地。热量条件较好，无霜期170天,年降水量近500毫米，复种指数高,作物以小麦、玉米、高粱、谷子、棉花为大宗。煤、铁、石膏等矿产资源丰富。工业以纺织与煤炭较发达，其他如造纸、机械、建材、化工、食品等部门也具一定基础。介休的洪山镇早在唐代即为陶瓷生产地，以唐白釉、宋黑白釉为著名，瓷窑遗址在村东南源泉庙旁，已作为文物保护。陶瓷产品多外销，曾获出口纪念奖。城内后土庙是配有楼台殿阁的古建筑群，城南介山即介子推隐居之绵山。山上有险峻奇特的抱腹岩，近处有南天门、白云洞等，均为游览地。
