基本结构 可分为简单和复式两种类型。简单显微镜即放大镜﹐由正透镜组成﹐放置于物体和肉眼之间﹐使微小物体放大成虚像。复式显微镜由两组透镜或透镜系统组成。第一组透镜(即物镜)形成物体的放大像﹐第二组透镜(即目镜)放大第一组透镜形成的像。典型的复式光学显微镜由支架﹑反光镜﹑聚光镜﹑载物台﹑镜筒﹑物镜﹑目镜﹑以及调节镜筒或载物台移动的机械装置组成 (图1 复式光学显微镜 
)。反光镜的作用是使光线通过反射面进入仪器﹔载物台下的聚光镜﹐可增强对样品的照明能力﹔物镜在镜筒中形成一个中间的实象﹔目镜则放大中间像﹐在接近样品平面处形成一个虚像(当用肉眼观察时)﹐或在目镜上方的照相底片平面上形成一个实象。
性能 除了能放大物体外﹐还应具有良好的分辨力以及形成好的反差像。
