古苗河是苗族人民的母亲河，位于吉首市北面70多公里处的花垣（yuan）县。
古苗河的两岸山峰耸峙，顺环山腰而建的扶梯木板路向景区深处前行，一路风景殊绝，有白水河、“雄狮迎驾”、“蚩尤巡疆”和“天兵天将”、“万卷天书”以及融险美于一身的七梯岩瀑布等景点，传说这些景点全是由战神蚩尤及他的部下和女儿幻化而成。
这里年平均气温为摄氏11.4 度，夏季平均气温不超过摄氏30度，有“天然空调”、“大氧吧”的美称，是避暑的风水宝地。
交通：由吉首火车站乘至花垣的中巴车，车费10元，两个小时左右可至。此外，至永顺、龙山、保靖的车均经过花垣。到达花垣县城后在西门乘面的至古苗河码头，单程包车费用10元左右，二十分钟即可到达。到达码头后需乘渡船到达景区大门，单程票价3元，六七分钟可至。
