艾尔湖 Eyre,Lake 澳大利亚最大的湖泊。位于南澳大利亚州东北,因探险家爱德华·约翰·艾尔早先到此而得名。面积和湖区轮廓很不稳定。雨季,间歇河若带来大量流水,湖面随之扩大,成为淡水湖;干季,强烈蒸发湖面缩小,湖底变成盐壳。湖泊总面积变化在0~9500平方千米之间。艾尔湖由南、北两湖组成,两湖之间有戈伊德水道相通。湖盆最低点在海平面下15米,是澳大利亚和大洋洲的最低点。湖区气候干旱,年平均降水量一般在125毫米以下,蒸发量可达3000毫米。湖底经常干涸。流入河流都为间歇河,有沃伯顿河、库珀河。地下有大自流盆地可供开发饮畜。有石油、煤等矿藏。
