高氯酸镁化学式Mg(ClO4)2，分子量223.23。无水高氯酸镁为白色多孔物质，密度2.6g/cm3，易溶于水和乙醇。受热易分解。有氧化性，接触还原性物质易发生爆炸。具有极强烈的吸水性能，用水浸湿则产生热，并发出嘶嘶的声音，吸水量可达到它本身质量的60％。它是一种中性物质，因此，高氯酸镁是一种优良的气体干燥剂(适于干燥H2、O2、Cl2、HCl、NH3、CO2等)，还用做氧化剂。用高氯酸跟氧化镁反应可制得本品。
