    一种化学元素  。化学符号Ir  ,原子序数77  ,原子量192.22,属周期系Ⅷ族,为铂系元素的成员。1803年英国S.坦南特  、法国  H.-V.科莱-德斯科蒂  、A.F.de富尔克鲁瓦和N.-  L.沃克兰用王水溶解粗铂时,发现残留的黑色粉末中有一种新元素,坦南特于1804年把它命名为iridium,该字来源于拉丁文iris  ,含义是“彩虹”。铱在地壳中的含量为1×10-7 %  ,常与其他铂系元素一起分散在冲积矿床和砂积矿床的多种矿物(如原铂矿、镍黄铁矿、硫化镍铜矿、磁铁矿)中。独立矿物有砷铂铱矿、硫铱锇钌矿。还以游离状态存在于自然合金(如铱锇合金)中。
   铱是银白色金属  ,熔点2410℃  ,沸点4130℃  ,密度22.421克/厘米3。硬而脆,很难进行机械加工,但在高温下可压成薄片和拉成细丝。铱的化学性质很不活泼,块状金属在空气中加热时会形成二氧化铱薄膜,加热时可与氟、氯发生反应。铱不溶于酸和王水,只有在强氧化剂(如氯酸钠)存在下才于12
