   描述静电场特性的基本物理量之一,标量。库仑定律指出,两静止点电荷之间的相互作用力是有心力,其方向沿两者的连线,其大小只依赖于两者的距离。根据库仑定律和场强叠加原理可以证明,静电力对试验电荷所作的功与路径无关 ,仅由起点、终点的位置确定。若试验电荷在静电场中沿闭合路径移动一周,则静电力对它所作的功为零,这就是静电场的环路定理。它表明静电场是保守场或势场,存在着一个可以用来描述静电场特性的、只与位置有关的标量函数——电势。
   功量度了能量的变化。设一电量为q0的试验点电荷在静电场中从 P点移动到Q点时,静电力作功A,则相应的能量变化定义为P、Q两点的电势能之差WPWQ,即
