用绞纱组织织成的薄型丝织物，是演员化装时粘贴在脸上的一种美容纱。具有轻薄、柔软、透明的特点，在脸上粘贴一层或数层面纱能掩盖面部皱纹。也可把剧中人需要的胡须、眉睫毛等物附植在面纱上，供演员化装用，使扮演的角色形象逼真。面纱还用作复制假发的基布，可将细长的发丝逐根插入绞纱织物的孔眼中。假发丝的密度取决于面纱目孔的多少，一般为 700～1000目/厘米2。由于面纱直接触及皮肤，要求纱质柔软、富有弹性并具有良好的透气、吸湿性能，还应与皮肤、化装物间有一定的粘附力且符合人体卫生要求。面纱常以13/15D生桑蚕丝为原料,经浸渍、络丝、加拈、络筒、整经等工序,在有绞纱装置的织机上织造。经密约36根/厘米，纬密23根/厘米,织物组织是一绞一纱组织（见纱罗组织），成品重约10克/米2。
