引用主模型的方法是，根据应用内容先建一个新文件，再进入装配方式选择添加新组件选项 ，将主模型文件添加到新建文件中，然后再进行应用操作。
例如： 要创建某零件的二维工程图， 用零件主模型的文件名作前缀、再加上_dwg 后缀作为与主模型对应的工程图文件名， 然后再进入到装配中， 选择Add 选项， 按一般添加新组件的方法， 将主模型添加到装配中， 最后进入Drafting 模块进行工程图操作。这样与主模型相对应的工程图信息就包含在后缀为_dwg 的文件中， 而与主模型数据分开。 由于UG 具有较多的应用功能， 在为同一主模型的每种应用建立装配文件时， 会增加文件数量 。为便于文件识别和文件管理， 每类应用文件的命名必须遵循一定的规则。根据UG 的应用功能， 同一模型的主要应用文件可分为五种类型： 主模型文件、装配文件、二维工程图文件、 加工或工装应用文件、有限元或机构运动分析应用文件。各类文件的实别标致可用各应用名 称的缩写表示。按习惯，各应用文件的缩写为： 装配文件用_asm 表示， 二维绘图文件用_dwg 表示， 加工或工装应用文件用_mfe 表示； 有限元或机构运动分析应用文件用_cae表示。 在对同一部件模型的各应用文件进行命名时， 将主文件名分为两部分， 其前一部分与主模型文件相同， 后一部分用各应用的缩写表示。所有文件的扩展名均为.prt。
