温压炸弹是美国国防部降低防务威胁局在2002年10月组织海军、空军、能源部和工业界专家,利用两个月时间突击研制的,并成功应用于阿富汗战场。温压炸弹爆炸时能产生持续的高温、高压,并大量消耗目标周围空气中的氧,打击洞穴和坑道目标效果显著。除去用温压炸弹打击洞穴、坑道和掩体等狭窄空间目标外,美国海军陆战队还计划利用便携式温压炸弹打击城市设施,包括建筑物和沟道等。
