      使鱼、肉、水果、蔬菜等易腐食品处于冻结状态或某种低温条件下进行载运的专用运输船舶。因受货运批量限制,冷藏船吨位不大,通常为数百吨到数千吨。(见彩图)
  
  
  冷藏船的货舱为冷藏舱,常隔成若干个舱室。每个舱室是一个独立的封闭的装货空间。舱壁、舱门均为气密,并覆盖有泡沫塑料、铝板聚合物等隔热材料,使相邻舱室互不导热,以满足不同货种对温度的不同要求。冷藏舱的上下层甲板之间或甲板和舱底之间的高度较其他货船的小,以防货物堆积过高而压坏下层货物。

  近年来,为提高冷藏船的利用率,出现一种能兼运汽车、集装箱和其他杂货的多用途冷藏船,吨位可达2万吨左右。冷藏船航速高于一般货船,万吨级多用途冷藏船的航速每小时超过20海里。
