Famous Chinese magazine Yao Wen Jiao Zi(《咬文嚼字》), or Verbalism in English, recently published The Most Popular Words of 2018. Words as varied as "koi fish", "official announcement" and "withdraw from a group" that capture the important events and trends in 2018 made it to the list(名单 míng dān).

These ten buzzwords are:

1. [rénlèi mìngyùn gòngtóngtǐ] 人类命运共同体 a community with a shared future

2. [jǐn lǐ] 锦鲤 koi fish; a lucky dog

3. [diànxiǎo'èr] 店小二 waiter

4. [jiàokēshū shì] 教科书式 a textbook case

5. [guān xuān] 官宣 officially announce/official announcement

6. [quèrèn guò yǎnshén] 确认过眼神 soul gaze

7. [tuì qún] 退群 withdraw from a group

8. [fó xì] 佛系 buddha-like

9. [jù yīng] 巨婴 Big baby

10. [gāng jīng] 杠精 hater
