BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Fighting between rival Muslim sects has resumed in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli where 12 people have been killed since last week.
Gunfire could be heard in the Bab Tabbaneh district, a largely Sunni Muslim area, as Lebanese Army convoys patrolled the streets in armoured personnel carriers. Spillover from Syria’s civil war has frequently inflamed sectarian tensions in Tripoli. Clashes have seen Sunni gunmen battle residents who follow the same Alawite sect as Syrian President Bashar Assad.
