BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Syrian President Bashar Assad has blamed Turkey for the bloodshed in his country. In an interview with Turkey’s private Halk TV, Assad attacked Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and warned that Ankara would pay "a high price" for allowing foreign fighters to enter Syria from its territory.
Speaking of the election next year, he said it’s still too early to decide whether to run for the presidency. Assad’s second seven-year-term ends in mid-2014.
"This government, represented by Erdogan, is responsible for the blood of tens of thousands of Syrians, and is responsible for the destruction of Syria’s infrastructure. It is also responsible for endangering security of the region, not only in Syria. It is well known they interfered in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and a number of areas in the region and involved the state and the people of Turkey in political issues and wars that are against the interests of Turkish people." "If I have a feeling that the Syrian people want me to be their President in the coming period, then I will run for the post. If the answer is no, I will not run and I don’t see a problem in that. It is October now and I think the picture will be clearer in the next four to five months. Because Syria is going though rapid changes on the ground, it’s very hard to give a hard and fast answer at this point, but I will not hesitate if I see that’s what the people want. I won’t hesitate." Bashar Assad said.
