BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has reiterated the government’s commitment in dealing with the leakage of contaminated water at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Abe said the government will tackle the problem head on and implement necessary measures instead of leaving the issue solely on the plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Corporation. The Prime Minister still said fundamental measures must be taken.
On Saturday, TEPCO announced that highly radioactive areas have been found near water tanks which contain contaminated water. Local media said that the level was high enough to be fatal within four hours of exposure. But the chairman of Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority has denied that the radiation is high enough to be lethal.
