BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Ever since last Wednesday’s alleged chemical attack, western military deployments around Syria have been beefed up, as many speculate that a strike could come within days.
Two US aircraft carriers are currently in the Persian Gulf Region. The US has also deployed five destroyers to the eastern Mediterranean Sea. The US has numerous bases scattered across the region, including bases in Turkey and Jordan, both countries share a border with Syria.
French military analysts say its Rafele and Mirage fighter jets have been deployed to the UAE and Djibouti, ready to launch cruise missiles to attack Syria. The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle is on standby in the Southeast city of Toulon in the Mediterranean.
One of France’s most up-to-date destroyers Chevalier Paul has also been dispatched to the eastern Mediterranean Sea near Syria.
