BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- US Seceretary of State John Kerry has said that the alleged chemical weapons attack last week near Damascus did indeed occur and that it was carried out by the Syrian government.

In a strongly worded statement, US secretary of State John Kerry described footage of the alleged chemical weapons attack near Damascus as real and compelling, and not contived or fabricated.

He said the US and its partners are reviewing the information collected on the attacks and will provide the information in the days ahead, But he indicated that the Syrian government forces are behind these attacks.

He said, "These all strongly indicated that is real, that chemical weapons were used in Syria, we have additional information about this attack, and that information is being compiled and reviewed together with our partners and we will provide that information in the days ahead."
