BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Runways at London’s Heathrow airport have reopened, about an hour after fire on a plane that forced staff to close the airport.
The plane is a Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet operated by Ethiopian Airlines. A Heathrow spokesman has confirmed the plane suffered an onboard internal fire. He also says there were no passengers on board and no injuries have been reported.
Ethiopian Airlines says the aircraft on fire was parked at London Heathrow for more than 8 hours before smoke was detected. The US National Transport Safety Board says it is sending representatives to Heathrow to assist in a probe of the fire.
The Boeing 787 was earlier withdrawn from service earlier this year by Boeing for modifications after concerns that batteries on board could cause fires.
