BEIJING, May 31 (Xinhuanet) -- A series of bombings in have killed at least 30 people and wounded dozens.

Most of Thursday’s blasts went off in the capital of Baghdad, accounting for at least 25 victims. In the northern city of Mosul, a suicide attack at a security checkpoint killed two security force personnel and two civilians. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s attacks.

Iraq is facing its most relentless wave of violence since the US military withdrawal in 2011. Over 500 people were killed in May alone, making it the deadliest month in the country in at least a year.

Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, has acknowledged it is the government’s responsibility to try and halt further attacks.

"These daily patterns of car bomb attacks... daylight, let’s say, in Baghdad and other cities is really unacceptable, I mean, for the people of Iraq who have suffered so much, and that is why you see the anger in people’s eyes and statement is different from previous attacks because there has been a pattern of these attacks, and it is the government’s responsibility to redouble its efforts, to revise its security plans to contain this wave to prevent that from sliding into sectarian conflict, or war, as I and you witnessed in 2006-2007, " said Hoshyar Zebari, Iraqi Foreign Minister.
