President Xi Jinping meets with DPRK special envoy

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhuanet) -- President Xi Jinping has met with visiting DPRK special envoy Choe Ryong Hae in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Choe gave Xi Jinping a letter written by DPRK leader Kim Jong Un. During their meeting, President Xi Jinping underlined China’s commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Xi Jinping says he hopes related sides will calm down and restart the six-party talks, which include China, the DPRK, South Korea, the US, Japan and Russia. Xi Jinping also expressed China’s willingness to further the healthy and stable relationship between the two countries.

Special envoy Choe says the DPRK is sincerely hoping to develop the country and is willing to cooperate with related sides to properly settle issues through the six-party talks. He also said the DPRK cherishes the friendship between the two sides and hopes to boost relations.

The special envoy of DPRK leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Beijing on Wednesday. The envoy’s visit is believed to be aimed at improving bilateral relations and mutual communication, amidst the latest build-up of tension on the Korean Peninsula after the DPRK’s third nuclear test in February.
