BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Japan's Ministry of Defense has announced that nearly 1,000 Japanese officers will participate in a joint drill with the US military in California.

The ministry said the drill named Dawn Blitz and scheduled for June, will involve the recapture of an isolated island, but is not aimed at scenarios involving a specific country. It added that conditions are "ripe" for such an exercise.

Since December 2010 when tensions emerged with China over the disputed Diaoyu Islands, Japan has already held four military drills simulating island recaptures, 3 together with the US.
