Central African Republic rebels seize capital
2013-03-25 (Xinhua)   2013-03-25 10:41:22

BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhuanet) -- Rebels in the Central African Republic have taken control of the capital Bangui after President Francois Bozize fled the city. Bozize is now seeking refuge in neighbouring Cameroon, according to sources in Cameroon’s defense ministry.

There are reports that rebels from the country’s Seleka coalition are ransacking and looting the home of Bozize’s son in the Bangui. Widespread looting of homes and businesses continue, with both residents and rebels accused of stealing.

The rebel fighters took control of the city as the whereabouts of Bozize remained uncertain. The rebels resumed hostilities last week and quickly swept south towards Bangui.
