BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The US state department says the U.S. is fully capable of defending itself against a DPRK ballistic missile attack after Pyongyang threatened a pre-emptive nuclear strike.
The DPRK said it may carry out more nuclear weapons tests and military action, in response to the new UN sanctions and upcoming US-South Korean military drills. A foreign ministry spokesman said the sanctions would only advance the timing for the country to fulfill previous vows to take "powerful second and third countermeasures" against its enemies.
In anticipation of the resolution’s adoption, the DPRK on Tuesday also threatened to cancel the 1953 cease-fire that ended the Korean War.
