Ex-President Musharraf to return to Pakistan
2013-03-02 (Xinhua)   2013-03-02 10:01:28

BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Pakistan’s former President, Pervez Musharraf, says he’ll return home this month, after almost four years in exile. Musharraf says he’ll take part in a forthcoming parliamentary election in the country.

Parliament is due to be dissolved by March 16th, after which an interim administration will take over ahead of the election, which will be held within 90 days.

Musharraf seized power in a 1999 coup, and briefly imposed a state of emergency in Pakistan before resigning in 2008. Asked if he planned to run for president, Musharraf said the presidency would come "at a later stage".

The former president faces the threat of arrest in Pakistan, on charges that he failed to provide adequate security to former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto before her assassination in 2007. Some media reports suggest he’ll seek the help of Saudi Arabia in obtaining guarantees that he’ll not be detained.
