BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Violence has erupted in New Delhi between police and demonstrators, who were protesting the rape of a 7-year-old girl in a school toilet.
The skirmish took place on Friday, shortly after a government bus was destroyed in the streets of the Indian capital by outraged protestors. The rape of the schoolgirl occurred at a school managed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, where the victim had gone to take her midday meal on Thursday.
Three people have allegedly been taken into custody by police in connection with the incident. The issue of women’s security and rape laws is currently in the spotlight of Indian politics, following the gang-rape and murder of a 23-year-old student last December.
