Obama rallies support over budget cuts
2013-02-26 (Xinhua)   2013-02-26 08:50:51

BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- US President Barack Obama has urged governors to press congressional lawmakers into action to avert a showdown over large-scale spending cuts.

There are only four days left before 85 billion dollars is due to be slashed from US government budgets. The White House has issued dire warnings about the harm the cuts will do to Americans.

Barack Obama said, "Now these impacts will not all be felt on day one, but rest assured the uncertainty is already having an effect. Companies are preparing lay off notices, families are preparing to cut back on expenses, and the longer these cuts are in place the bigger the impact will become. So, while you are in town, I hope that you will speak with your congressional delegation and remind them in no uncertain terms, exactly what is at stake and exactly who is at risk. Because here is the thing: these cuts do not have to happen. Congress can turn them off any time with just a little bit of compromise."
