BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- The UN Security Council is expected to adopt a resolution denouncing the DPRK’s rocket launch last December that sent a satellite into orbit.
South Korean news agency, KBS, says 15 members of the Security Council were set to vote on the resolution on Tuesday. The draft resolution reiterates the council’s previous demand that the DPRK abandon its nuclear weapons program and not proceed with further launches.
It also suggests imposing new sanctions on DPRK government agencies and companies. It also updates lists of banned nuclear and ballistic missile technology. If adopted, the resolution would be the first in four years to expand the sanctions regime on the DPRK .
