BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Bangladesh's main opposition alliance has called for a nationwide dawn-to-dusk strike on Tuesday. The 18-party opposition alliance staged a road blockade on Sunday.
They're demanding the government restore a non-party caretaker system to oversee next year's election. Opposition leaders and activists clashed with police during Sunday's road blockade. It's reported four people have been killed, with at least 600 others injured.
Tuesday’s strike is in protest against killings, mass arrests and attacks on the opposition's road blockade protest program.
The Bangladesh Parliament abolished the non-party caretaker government through the 15th constitution amendment last year. The system had been set up to ensure elections in the country were conducted in an impartial manner.
