Egyptian opposition refuses Morsi's offer to dialogue
2012-12-08 (Xinhua)   2012-12-08 10:53:58

BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- According to the government-owned newspaper Al-Ahram, the Egyptian opposition coalition, National Salvation Front, has refused President Mohamed Morsi’s offer to dialogue.

The coalition said in a statement that Morsi’s speech on Thursday did not wholly meet Egyptians’ aspirations. It said the president ignored the group’s demands, including canceling the decree granting him new powers and the constitutional referendum scheduled for December 15th. Egyptian protesters have gathered at Tahrir Square for another day of demonstrations.

Meanwhile, thousands of Morsi’s backers appeared outside Al-Azhar mosque. They were attending a funeral for two men killed Wednesday in clashes. In long-awaited Morsi’s speech, he denounced recent fighting outside the presidential palace. He also invited all opposition forces to meet Saturday afternoon at the palace to discuss solutions to the ongoing crisis.
