BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- 600 million Indians have been affected by the second mass power outage in as many days. A Power Ministry official said that the country's northern and eastern grids failed this afternoon, causing power outs in those regions, including the capital Delhi.
Local TV channels reported that all trains originating from Delhi have come to a halt. The power outs also shut off traffic signals. The reports said commuters have to traverse chaotic scenes even as Delhi Police deployed over 4,000 officers to man road traffic.
Meanwhile emergency services like hospitals have also been affected by the outage. The blackout came a day after northern India experienced power cuts following the failure of its northern grid. Indian Power Minister Sushil Kumar Schinde has ordered a probe into the crisis.
