On Saturday evening, the stadium in Rongjiang county, Southwest China's Guizhou province, buzzed with excitement as a friendly soccer match took place between LAC United, a team consisting of 24 Latin American and Caribbean diplomats, and the Rongjiang Luohanguo team.
Amid fans roaring and cheering, the two teams battled to a 2:2 tie, highlighting the 2024 "Discover China Cultural Tour" of Guizhou for Diplomats in China & Guizhou Village Super League co-organized by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Argentine Embassy in China.
The Village Super League showcased Guizhou's rich sports culture and provided a unique platform for cultural exchanges, said Hector Dorbecker, economic counselor of the Mexican embassy in China.
Aside from the soccer match, the four-day event also saw the delegation, featuring diplomats from 15 countries, including Argentina, Croatia, South Africa, Morocco, Mexico, Peru and Cuba, engage in a medley of activities to explore the beauty and culture of the southwestern province.
In Guiyang, they visited the Jiaxiu Tower, a famous ancient pavilion, and checked out the bustling Qingyun market, a tourist attraction renowned for local delicacies and intangible cultural heritages. While in Rongjiang county, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, they visited the Dali Dong village, where they marveled at its centuries-old architecture and learned how the Dong cloth, a traditional handmade fabric, was produced.
Sergio Fausto Cabrera Cárdenas, Colombian ambassador to China, expressed high praise for the local primitive village landscapes and the Dong Grand Song, a national-level intangible cultural heritage. "This is a very beautiful place, where the natural environment and cultural scenery have been well preserved. It is truly impressive," he said.
Dozens of diplomats also visited the Rongjiang Guzhou Second Primary School to experience the vibrant soccer atmosphere.
"We can see these kids' smiles and how they play and enjoy the sport," Agustín Gil Michel, the third secretary of the Argentine embassy in China, said after interacting with the students.
