Fujian residents can now apply for travel endorsements to Jinmen, an island lies off the coast of East China's Fujian province, local police said on Friday.
Fujian residents with household registration and residence permits can apply to the Fujian Public Security Bureau's immigration department for an individual or group tourist endorsement valid for six months to Jinmen. They can depart via the ferry routes through Wutong or Shijing ports and return within the specified period through the ports, local authorities said.
This resumption came after years of suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Wednesday at a news conference in Beijing that it's believed the number of mainland tourists visiting Jinmen will continue to increase.
"We hope the visitors will have a positive tourism experience in Jinmen and also expect the Taiwan authorities to genuinely prioritize the well-being of people on both sides of the Strait, ensuring smooth cross-strait tourism exchanges and cooperation," she said.
