The Nationwide Youth Aesthetic Education Demonstration Performance and the 2024 Aesthetic Education for All Youth Ethnic Chorus Performance Showcase concluded in Futian in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, on Aug 3, with a gala featuring 27 choirs from ethnic groups around the country.
The event, launched in April, attracted more than 1,000 children from 27 choirs. They performed distinctive folk songs, as well as folk dances, and traditional Chinese operas. The performances were aired online, attracting about 1.1 million viewers.
The initiative sought to promote traditional arts and cultural education among the youth, and to provide a platform for talented youngsters to demonstrate their abilities and immerse themselves in China's cultural heritage.
Veteran musicians, including Zhao Cong, pipa (short-necked Chinese lute) player and president of China National Traditional Orchestra, tenor and conductor Zhang Hui, and conductor Sun Jingjing, also took party in the event.
