When Tesla, SpaceX and X CEO Elon Musk said in an interview that he hopes China and the United States can work together for global prosperity, he was stating something that makes perfect sense.
According to official data, China's GDP for 2022 is 121 trillion yuan ($16.97 trillion), or about 18 percent of the world's total, second only to that of the US(which is 25 percent of the world's total).
As the world's two largest economies, they can benefit the world by joining hands as much as they can cause damage to it by antagonizing each other.
That's why the Chinese government and voices of reason in both countries have been stressing the need for them to work together. By working together, enterprises in both countries can save costs and provide better, smoother service to the 1.4 billion Chinese people and 330 million US citizens.
Tesla's large factory in Shanghai, from where large amounts of new Tesla models have been shipped to their customers the world over, is a perfect example of how China and the US can tap into their complementarity.
That's why Musk said in the interview that "We are happy with our progress in China. It's going very well." Steady Sino-US ties will serve more than just the two nations. It will serve the 8 billion global population well too. By trying to hinder this cooperation, certain politicians in the US are hindering the prosperity of their own country.
Some say that it takes wisdom to be a successful entrepreneur. This wisdom is not that hard to absorb — one just needs to follow the rules, work for the common interests of all, and refrain from the zero-sum mentality peddled by some shortsighted politicians.
