For most first-time visitors to Anshun in Southwest China's Guizhou province, it can be amazing to discover over 300 villages where ethnic Han people have preserved their traditional lifestyle for more than 600 years.

The villagers in this area are descendants of troops who were assigned by the founding emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to suppress resistance forces of the previous Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and were left there to prevent any potential counterattacks from the remaining rebels.

Inspired by the history and distinctive culture shaped by the descendants over the centuries, director Yu Guowei and producer Yuan Xibo created the story of The Tunpu, a forthcoming feature scheduled to be released in domestic theaters this summer.

Recently, the movie's cast and crew attended the 13th Beijing International Film Festival, with its stars Zhang Danfeng, Chen Duling and Zhang Aoyue walking on the opening ceremony's red carpet. The movie retells a story of the locals' fight during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45).

Producer Yuan said that they also wished to showcase the patriotism and fearless spirit of Chinese people, inherited from their ancestors, when it comes to safeguarding their hometown.
